Korsmo-Haugen HK, et al. - In adults with type 2 diabetes, researchers compared the effects of low carbohydrate diets (LCDs) on body weight, glycaemic control, lipid profile and blood pressure with those observed on higher carbohydrate diets (HCDs) through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Particularly when considering longer term trials, the proportion of daily energy provided by carbohydrate intake was not an important determinant of response to dietary management. For people with diabetes into practical advice, a range of dietary patterns including those traditionally consumed in Mediterranean countries appears suitable for translating nutritional recommendations.
