Can polymorphisms in the fatty acid desaturase (FADS) gene cluster alter the effects of fish oil supplementation on plasma and erythrocyte fatty acid profiles? An exploratory study
European Journal of Nutrition Sep 22, 2017
Meldrum SJ, et al. - This exploratory study aimed to examine if haplotype and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the fatty acid desaturases (FADS) gene cluster could influence long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) status in infants who received either fish oil or placebo supplementation. The clinicians proposed that in minor allele carriers of FADS1 SNPs, supplementation with fish oil could only significantly increase DHA. To confirm this novel finding, further research was needed.
