Bone bruise in anterior cruciate ligament rupture entails a more severe joint damage affecting joint degenerative progression
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy Jun 13, 2018
Filardo G, et al. - Experts documented the evidence of all available literature on the role of bone bruise related to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) lesions. A high prevalence of the bone bruise (78% in the most recent papers) was noted with distinct patterns associated with the mechanism of injury. Only a minority of cases displayed this MRI finding during the first few months after the trauma. However, its presence and persistence were observed to be associated with a more severe joint damage that could impact the degenerative progression of the entire joint.
