Body mass index of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is associated with pulmonary function and exacerbations: A retrospective real world research
Journal of Thoracic Disease Sep 02, 2018
Wu Z, et al. - In this retrospective real world research, experts explored the link between body mass index (BMI) and pulmonary function, inflammation levels and exacerbation in Chinese chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Participants in the study were 744 patients with COPD diagnosed by spirometry and hospitalized from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2016. The findings from the present study suggested that BMI was moderately associated with pulmonary function positively and exacerbations negatively. On the basis of the available data, they conclude that BMI might be a useful indicator to forecast the prognosis of COPD patients and for long-term management to some extent.
