Blood pressure, antihypertensive medication use, and risk of erectile dysfunction in men with type I diabetes
Journal of Hypertension Apr 03, 2019
Sarma AV, et al. - In this prospective cohort study that included men with type 1 diabetes, researchers assessed the onset, severity, and treatment of hypertension as well as the risk of incident erectile dysfunction to determine the impact of blood pressure on the pathophysiology of diabetic erectile dysfunction. They examined 692 men without prevalent erectile dysfunction. For 16 years, participants were asked about the presence of impotence in order to evaluate erectile dysfunction. The risk for incident erectile dysfunction in relation to hypertension variables was assessed using multivariable cox proportional hazards models.
An increased risk of developing erectile dysfunction was observed in relation to higher systolic blood pressure levels in men with type 1 diabetes not using antihypertensive medications.
