Blood eosinophils and inhaled corticosteroids in patients with COPD: Systematic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of COPD Sep 13, 2018
Cheng SL - Author evaluated if a blood eosinophil count of ≥2% in patients undergoing inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) therapy was correlated with a greater reduction in COPD exacerbation rate and pneumonia incidence. As per data, in patients with COPD, ICS treatment response was accurately predicted by 2% threshold for blood eosinophils but this treatment entity increased the risk of pneumonia. Compared to the non-ICS/ICS withdrawal/placebo group, a 17% reduction was seen in exacerbation of moderate/severe COPD in patients with ≥2% blood eosinophils undergoing ICS therapy.
