Bilateral keratoconus progression: immediate vs delayed sequential bilateral corneal cross-linking
Journal of Refractive Surgery Aug 14, 2020
Pagano L, Gadhvi KA, Borroni D, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective case note review to compare immediate sequential bilateral corneal cross-linking (CXL) in which both eyes are treated on the same day with delayed sequential bilateral CXL in which each eye is treated on different days for bilateral progressive keratoconus. The sample consisted of all patients who had sequential CXL or delayed CXL for keratoconus at Royal Liverpool University Hospital, United Kingdom. In total, 38 patients (31 men and 7 women) with keratoconus with a mean age of 25.3 ± 7.0 years were involved. Delayed CXL carries a risk of progression in the second eye and is related to an increased economic burden. There were no treatment-related complications in either group.
