Baseline fragmented QRS is associated with increased all-cause mortality in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Annals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology Oct 22, 2018

Kanitsoraphan C, et al. – Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the association of baseline fragmented QRS (fQRS) and all-cause mortality in patients who had heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Upon comprehensive review of the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases (inception to February 2018), they identified 10 relevant studies from 2010-2017, which were included in the analysis. These studies reported fQRS and outcomes of all-cause mortality and major arrhythmic event (sudden cardiac death, sudden cardiac arrest, ventricular fibrillation, or sustained ventricular tachycardia). They found that, in patients with HFrEF, baseline fQRS was related to increased all-cause mortality up to 1.63-fold. Findings indicated that clinical outcome in patients with HFrEF could be predicted by fQRS.
