Automated clinical assessment of corneal guttae in Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy
American Journal of Ophthalmology Jul 30, 2020
Soh YQ, Peh GSL, Naso SL, et al. - In this observational reliability study, researchers sought to characterize the validation and implementation of an automated system, for the detection and quantification of guttae in Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD). Individuals with FECD had retroillumination corneal photography, followed by determination of the distributions and sizes of corneal guttae by an automated image analysis algorithm. Automated guttae assessment enables the correct recognition and quantification of guttae features in patients with FECD. For Descemet Stripping Only and/or Descemet Membrane Transplantation, this can be used clinically as a personalized descemetorhexis zone.
