Augmentative anti-rotational plating provided a significantly higher union rate than exchanging reamed nailing in treatment for femoral shaft aseptic atrophic nonunion - Retrospective cohort study

Lai PJ, et al. - Between 2014 and 2015, investigators evaluated the data to assess the surgical outcomes of exchanging reamed nailing (ERN) vs augmentative anti-rotational plating (AAP) for femoral shaft aseptic atrophic nonunion. They noticed an overall union rate after revision surgery of 70.8%. They found a comparable union rate between groups for isthmic nonunions with regards to the location of nonunion. Although, they recorded significantly higher union rate and shorter operating time shorter in the AAP group for the management of femoral shaft aseptic atrophic nonunion compared with ERN.
