Atrioventricular septal defect and tetralogy of Fallot – A single tertiary center experience: A retrospective review
The Annals of Pediatric Cardiology May 03, 2019
Alhawri KA, et al. - Researchers report their experience in managing complete atrioventricular septal defect (CAVSD) in association with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). They performed a retrospective review of 16 patients who had CAVSD/TOF repaired between February 2006 and May 2017 at their center. Primary repair was performed in five patients; staged repair in the form of right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) stenting (n=9) or systemic to pulmonary (S-P) surgical shunt (n=2) was performed in 11 patients. They concluded that low mortality and morbidity can be seen with repair of CAVSD/TOF. Surgical (S-P) shunt has been replaced by the RVOT stent with acceptable results. In five patients (31%), pulmonary valve was preserved; no prior palliation was reported in four of them. The occurrence of chylothorax was reported in 50% of the patients. Sepsis caused one late death following final repair.
