Atrioventricular block can be used as a risk predictor of clinical atrial fibrillation
Clinical Cardiology Mar 23, 2019
Zhao X, et al. - In view of the controversial relationship between atrioventricular conduction block and atrial fibrillation (AF), researchers retrospectively reviewed the final total sample size of 1,243 patients, including 679 patients in the AF group (378, 55.7% males) and 564 patients in the non-AF group (287, 50.8% males) to assess if there is a correlation between atrioventricular block (AVB) and AF, in addition to determining the type of AVB that has the most apparent association with AF. Compared to the non-AF group, the AF group had a significantly higher incidence of the three types of AVB. Compared with other types of AVB, II AVB has the highest incidence rate in the AF group. They suggest using AVB as a risk factor for AF occurrence.
