Associations of job strain, stressful life events, and social strain with coronary heart disease in the Women’s Health Initiative Observational Study
Journal of the American Heart Association Mar 02, 2021
Wang C, Lê‐Scherban F, Taylor J, et al. - Using longitudinal data, researchers examined links of psychosocial stressors, including job strain, stressful life events, and social strain with coronary heart disease (CHD) incidence in females. They analyzed data from 80,825 WHI‐OS (Women's Health Initiative Observational Study) participants who had a mean age of 63.4 years (7.3 years) at baseline. An average of 14.7 years of observation revealed CHD occurrence in 3,841 (4.8%) women. Findings revealed a higher CHD risk in relation to high stressful life events as well as in presence of high social strain. Job strain and social strain acted synergistically to raise the risk of CHD.
