Nguyen OK, et al. - In undocumented immigrants with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), researchers compared the effectiveness of scheduled vs emergency-only dialysis in terms of health outcomes, utilization and costs. In this cohort study of 181 adults, scheduled dialysis was significantly related to reduced 1-year mortality, health care utilization and costs vs emergency-only dialysis. The universal standard of care for all persons with ESRD in the United States should be scheduled dialysis.
