Association of region and hospital and patient characteristics with use of high-intensity statins after myocardial infarction among Medicare beneficiaries
JAMA Cardiology Sep 27, 2019
Bittner V, Colantonio LD, Dai Y, et al. - Using Medicare administrative claims and enrollment data, researchers examined the relative strength of associations between region and hospital and patient characteristics with high-intensity statin use after myocardial infarction (MI) via performing a retrospective cohort analysis. According to findings, post-discharge high-intensity statin use increased from 23.4% in 2011 to 55.6% in 2015 in a sample of 139,643 Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries hospitalized for MI. Geographic region was more strongly linked to high-intensity statin use after MI in multivariable-adjusted models than the characteristics of hospital or patient.
