Association of prenatal cannabis exposure with psychosis proneness among children in the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study
JAMA Jul 11, 2019
Fine JD, et al. - In view of the observation that marijuana use during pregnancy has increased and evidence that cannabis use is correlated with psychosis and that endocannabinoids are involved in neurodevelopment, researchers sought for the potential long-term consequences of prenatal exposure. In the United States, pregnant mothers demonstrated a 75% increase in the prevalence of past-month marijuana use between 2002 (2.85%) and 2016 (4.98%) reflecting increases in the general population. Cannabis use is suggested to have a link with psychosis highlighting the significance of further knowledge regarding prenatal exposure.
