Association of long-term SBP with clinical outcomes and quality of life in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: An analysis of the treatment of preserved cardiac function heart failure with an aldosterone antagonist trial

Journal of Hypertension Jun 17, 2021

Huang P, Yu Y, Wei F, et al. - In this study, the relationships of long-term systolic blood pressure (LT-SBP) levels with clinical outcomes and health-related quality of life in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) were explored. Researchers examined participants from the Treatment of Preserved Cardiac Function Heart Failure with an Aldosterone Antagonist study with available different SBP measurements from different follow-ups (n = 3310). Adjusted Cox proportional hazards models and restricted cubic spline models were used to ascertain the relationships of LT-SBP and outcomes. Long-term control of SBP level at 120–129 mmHg is independently correlated with the highest risk reduction of all-cause mortality and improvement of Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire score among patients with HFpEF. There is a need for randomized clinical trials to specifically analyze optimal SBP treatment goals in patients with HFpEF.
