Intensive Care Medicine Jul 29, 2018

Mohus RM, et al. - Authors evaluated the correlations of iron status with risk of bloodstream infections (BSIs) and BSI mortality. Results demonstrated an association of indices of severe iron deficiency with an increased risk of a future BSI. In age- and sex-adjusted analyses, an increased risk of BSI was noted among participants with indices of iron deficiency, serum iron ≤ 2.5th percentile, Tsat ≤ 2.5th percentile or TIBC ≥ 97.5th percentile.
