Association of hypothermia with increased mortality rate in SARS-CoV-2 infection
International Journal of Infectious Diseases May 21, 2021
Fatteh N, Sutherland GE, Santos RG, et al. - This study was intended to distinguish whether hypothermia in a patient infected with SARS-CoV-2 is correlated with a higher than expected mortality. Between March 9 to April 20, 2020, researchers examined 331 charts from patients hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2. A significant correlation was observed between hypothermia and death. In SARS-CoV-2 disease, predictors of mortality can expedite earlier aggressive care. There may be a need for resource allocation management and information about mortality risk may be helpful in areas with limited resources or overburdened healthcare systems.
