Association of early repolarization pattern with cardiovascular outcomes in middle‐aged population: A cohort study

Clinical Cardiology Dec 19, 2020

Cheng YJ, Zhao XX, Pan SP, et al. - Since large cohort investigations afford conflicting evidence concerning the prognostic worth of early repolarization pattern (ERP) in the general population, complicated by the complex or heterogeneous definitions of ERP employed in different researches, therefore, researchers herein investigated whether ERP was related to elevated cardiovascular risk with the definition of ERP advised by the expert consensus statements. From the prospective, population‐based Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities study, experts selected 1,3673 middle‐aged persons for this analysis. A significantly raised risk of developing sudden cardiac death (SCD) and death from coronary heart disease (CHD) was present in persons with ERP, vs those without ERP, following a median follow‐up of 20.1 years. In women, whites, younger people, and individuals with relatively low cardiovascular risk, ERP was identified as a significant predictor of SCD. ERP was found to be related to an absolute risk increment of 93.3 additional SCDs per 100,000 person‐years. Overall, in the middle‐aged biracial population, findings revealed that SCD and CHD death were independently predicted by ERP.
