Association of convalescent plasma therapy with survival in patients with hematologic cancers and COVID-19
JAMA Jun 22, 2021
Thompson MA, Henderson JP, Shah PK, et al. - Researchers herein investigated if convalescent plasma therapy is linked with improved outcomes in hospitalized adults with hematologic cancers and COVID-19 from a multi-institutional cohort. In this cohort study, they included data of a total of 966 patients with hematologic cancer and COVID-19. Outcomes revealed a significantly improved 30-day mortality in the 143 individuals who received convalescent plasma treatment after adjustment for potential confounding factors. After propensity score matching, this association remained significant. These findings support that the administration of convalescent plasma to patients with hematologic cancers and COVID-19 is linked with potential survival benefit.
