Association between temperature variability and daily hospital admissions for cause-specific cardiovascular disease in urban China: A national time-series study

PLoS Medicine Evidence based | Feb 06, 2019

Tian Y, et al. - Considering the epidemiological study results supporting associations between daily temperature and mortality or morbidity from cardiovascular disease, researchers conducted the first national study in China examining links between temperature variability and daily hospital admissions for cause-specific cardiovascular disease. In this national time-series study, they used data on 8 million hospital admissions for cause-specific cardiovascular disease in 184 cities in China from 2014 to 2017. As per findings, temperature variability was identified to be correlated with increased hospital admissions for ischemic heart disease, heart failure, heart rhythm disturbances, and ischemic stroke. Hence they recommend general practitioners, cardiologists, and public health officials consider the detrimental effects of temperature variability in their mitigation strategies.
