Association between statin use and all-cause mortality in cancer survivors, based on the Korean Health Insurance Service between 2002 and 2015
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Nov 23, 2019
Kim J, Choi EA, Han YE, et al. - Given cancer represent the number one reason for death in Korea, researchers utilized data from the 2002 to 2015 National Health Insurance Service-National Health Screening Cohort (NHIS-HEALS), to determine whether statin use in cancer survivors was inversely related to all-cause mortality. A median observation period of 10.0 years was completed. A higher percentage of diabetes and hypertension was found among statin users in both genders. They observed higher survival rates in statin users compared with that in non-users. After adjustment for potential confounding factors, the HRs (95% CIs) for all-cause death were estimated to be 0.327 (0.194 – 0.553) and 0.287 (0.148 – 0.560) in men and in women, respectively, for statin users vs non-users. Overall, higher survival rate was reported in statin users in cancer survivors vs non-users in both genders.
