Association between socio-economic status and incident atrial fibrillation
Internal Medicine Journal Mar 19, 2019
Ramkumar S, et al. - Experts explored whether indices of disadvantage, education/occupation, and economic resources are correlated with incident atrial fibrillation (AF)—independent of risk factors and cardiac function. To assess the 5-year risk of developing AF, they used the CHARGE-AF score. The connection between socio-economic status and incident AF was assessed via Cox proportional hazards models. An association was found between regional socio-economic status and risk of incident AF, irrespective of LV function and clinical risk. This association could allow for better regional prevention targeting.
