Association between pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes and trabecular bone score: The Vietnam Osteoporosis Study
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Jul 24, 2019
Ho-Pham LT, et al. - In adult Vietnamese men and women, researchers explored the connection between type 2 diabetes and trabecular bone score (TBS). The study sample consisted of 2,702 women and 1,398 men ≥30 years old from the general community in Ho Chi Minh City. Data revealed that pre-diabetes and diabetes prevalence in men and women was 30.2% and 8.3%, respectively. Compared to healthy people, women (but not men) with type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes have lower TBS. Findings suggested an association of diabetes and prediabetes with a deterioration of bone microarchitecture. In women, but not men, there was a significant inverse correlation between TBS and HbA1c levels
