Association between polymorphisms in vitamin D receptor gene and adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: A meta-analysis
European Spine Journal May 10, 2018
Dai J, et al. - Researchers ascertained if the 2 single nucleotide polymorphisms (ApaI and BsmI) in vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene conferred susceptibility to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Findings suggested an association of BsmI with an increased risk of AIS in Asian populations. A significant association between BsmI polymorphism and AIS in Asians but not in Caucasians was noted in subgroup analysis by ethnicity. Nonetheless, there was no association of the ApaI polymorphism with AIS. Between BMD and the 2 VDR gene polymorphisms, no evidence of association was detected.
