Association between number of preventive care guidelines and preventive care utilization by patients
American Journal of Preventive Medicine May 18, 2018
Taksler GB, et al. - Authors assessed if the number of guideline-recommended preventive services was associated with utilization in patients. Eligibility was considered for 11 preventive services most closely associated with guidelines: Tobacco cessation; control of obesity, hypertension, lipids, or blood glucose; influenza vaccination; and screening for breast, cervical, or colorectal cancers, abdominal aortic aneurysm, or osteoporosis. There was an inverse relationship between the rate of preventive care utilization and the number of guideline-recommended services ie, the rate of preventive care utilization was lower when the number of guideline-recommended services was higher. Utilization of high-value services could be improved by prioritizing recommendations.
