Association between increased serum alkaline phosphatase and the coronary slow flow phenomenon
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jul 12, 2018
Wang Y, et al. - Since previous studies have suggested that generalized atherosclerosis, endothelial dysfunction, and low-grade chronic inflammation might be associated with coronary slow flow phenomenon (CSFP), researchers investigated the association between alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels and CSFP in 64 patients with angiographically proven CSFP and 50 with normal coronary flow. They measured serum ALP levels in all studied individuals. They found significantly higher serum ALP levels in patients with CSFP vs controls. These high serum ALP levels may be related to the pathogenesis of CSFP. They identified that CSFP could be predicted by a high serum ALP level.
