Association between income levels and irregular physician visits after a health checkup, and its consequent effect on glycemic control among employees: A retrospective propensity score-matched cohort study
Journal of Diabetes Investigation Jun 21, 2019
Nishi T, et al. - Among employees’ health insurance beneficiaries in Japan, researchers assessed the impacts of income levels on physician visit patterns and quantified the consequent effect of irregular physician visits on glycemic control. As study participants, 2,981 insurance beneficiaries were chosen. The authors made it clear that a significant connection existed between income and irregular visits, resulting in poor glycemic control. Although direct interventions to reduce income inequalities would be difficult to implement, interventions to improve the visiting behaviors of patients would be implemented to indirectly reduce health inequalities. Therefore, it would be useful for effective disease management to make regular physician visits to insurers' strategies that motivate such beneficiaries, particularly those in lower-income groups.
