Association between high-dose spironolactone and decongestion in patients with acute heart failure: An observational retrospective study
American Journal of Cardiovascular Drugs Jul 10, 2018
Kapelios CJ, et al. - In patients with acute congestive heart failure (ACHF), associations between high-dose spironolactone and decongestion and safety were evaluated. Researchers retrospectively studied 20 patients who were hospitalized with ACHF and received high doses of spironolactone (75–300 mg daily) on top of standard of care (SOC) and compared them with 20 matched patients who received SOC alone. As per outcomes, administration of high doses of spironolactone on top of SOC treatment seems to be safe and is correlated with greater decongestion than SOC alone.
