Association between dietary fiber intake and risk of incident aortic stenosis
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Jul 23, 2020
Janzi S, Dias JA, Martinsson A, et al. - Researchers assessed the risk of incident aortic stenosis in correlation with dietary fiber consumption as well as the main food sources of fiber, ie, fruit and vegetables and whole grains, in a Swedish prospective population-based cohort study, the Malmö Diet and Cancer Study. Via seven-day food diaries, 168-item diet questionnaires, and interviews, dietary habits were determined. Using national registers, data on incident aortic stenosis was obtained. Among 26,063 individuals, 672 were ascertained during a mean observation span of 20 years. To estimate the link between dietary consumption and incident aortic stenosis, Cox regression was applied. Findings did not reveal a correlation between intake of dietary fiber or fiber rich foods and incident aortic stenosis.
