Association between climate, pollution and hospitalization for pemphigus in the USA

Clinical and Experimental Dermatology Jun 15, 2018

Ren Z, et al. - Researchers ascertained if ultraviolet exposure, climate factors and pollutants were related to pemphigus exacerbation resulting in hospitalization. Results demonstrated an association of increasing temperature, UV exposure and small particle air pollution with increased hospitalization for pemphigus. Avoidance of these potential environmental triggers may lead to a benefit to patients with pemphigus. In multilevel regression models that controlled for age, sex and race/ethnicity, all associations remained significant. Except for the ultraviolet index, which was associated with pemphigus hospitalization only for Hispanic patients for quartile 4: 2.07.
