Association between age and Plasmodium falciparum infection dynamics
American Journal of Epidemiology Sep 28, 2018
Buchwald AG, et al. - Authors gauged the incidence and duration of unique infections by age groups in school-aged children (SAC). The rate of acquiring new infections in SAC was the same as that of under-five children, but these infections were sustained in the SAC for longer periods of time, comparable to adults. New perspectives into P. falciparum infection dynamic were presented in the findings that should be a part of designing malaria control strategies. Compared to SAC and under-five children, adults had significantly fewer unique infections per person per year.
