Arterial-spin-labeling (ASL) perfusion MRI predicts cognitive function in elderly individuals: A 4-year longitudinal study

Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Apr 09, 2018

De Vis JB, et al. - In order to identify elderly subjects who are most susceptible to imminent cognitive impairment, authors evaluated the potential of cerebral blood flow (CBF) as a biomarker for predicting cognitive function in these individuals. They investigated the relationship between CBF at baseline and cognition at follow-up. They noted that CBF can predict general cognitive ability as well as specific domains of cognitive function in a healthy aging cohort. As per linear regression analyses, whole-brain CBF at baseline was predictive of general fluid cognition at follow-up. In the older group, but not in younger or entire sample, this effect was noted.
