Are outcomes of thulium laser enucleation of the prostate different in men aged 75 and over?: A propensity score analysis
Urology Jul 28, 2019
Castellani D, et al. - A total of 412 men who underwent en bloc thulium laser enucleation of the prostate (ThuLEP) were analyzed by the researchers in order to assess the outcomes of ThuLEP in men aged ≥75 years vs youngers. One hundred twenty-nine subjects were aged ≥75 years (Group 2). The mean age was 65.6 ± 6.0 years and 79 ± 3.7 years in Group 1 and Group 2, respectively. Propensity scores recovered 206 subjects. In both groups, the median operation, catheterization time, and hospital stay were alike. Overall, with no variations among the groups, 85.9% of men had no complications. The incidence of Clavien grade III-IV complications was similar. No statistically important variations in the International Prostate Symptom Score, maximum urinary flow rate, QoL, or reoperation rate among the groups by 1 year was noted. Hence, en bloc ThuLEP was concluded to be a safe and efficient treatment even in men aged ≥75 years old.
