Anti-citrullinated protein antibodies are associated with osteopenia but not with pain at diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis: Data from the BARFOT cohort
Arthritis Research & Therapy Feb 08, 2019
Hafstrom I, et al. - Baseline data from the BARFOT (Better Anti-Rheumatic PharmacOTherapy) cohort was studied by authors to analyze the relation of anti-cyclic citrullinated (anti-CCP) antibodies with osteopenia or pain in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) cases during diagnosis. They noticed that anti-CCP positive male candidates had significantly more incidence of osteopenia in the femoral neck and Ward’s triangle than anti-CCP-negative cases. Anti-CCP positive (> 500 IU/ml) female candidates were found with more frequency of osteopenia in hip areas. No association of anti-CCP was found with osteopenia in the lumbar spine or the metacarpal bones.
