Angs (angiotensins) of the alternative renin-angiotensin system predict outcome in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction
Hypertension Jun 30, 2019
Binder C, et al. - Researchers investigated the value to angiotensin (Ang) profiling may offer insights into the pathogenesis and prognosis of heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction. In addition, they investigated how Angs influence the outcome in HF with preserved ejection fraction. Among 155 included patients, 52 individuals (34%) reached the combined clinical endpoint of cardiovascular death or HF hospitalization over a median follow-up time of 22.5 (interquartile range, 4.0–61.0) months. The findings suggest the possible role of Angs of the alternative renin-angiotensin system in HF with preserved ejection fraction and their link to outcomes in these patients. Independent predictors of outcome were Ang 1–5 and the alternative renin-angiotensin system composite marker [Ang 1–7+Ang 1–5]. Greater levels of Ang 1–7 and Ang 1–5 could predict poor outcome.
