Anaemia at admission is associated with poor clinical outcome in cerebral venous thrombosis
European Journal of Neurology Jan 29, 2020
Silvis SM, Reinstra E, Hiltunen S, et al. - Using data from a large international cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) consortium, researchers intended to determine if there is a connection between anaemia and poor clinical result in CVT. Consecutive adult CVT patients (n = 952) from seven centres were included. According to World Health Organization definitions, anaemia at admission was scored. Data reported that 22% of patients had anaemia at admission. Compared with patients without anaemia, those with anaemia more often had a history of cancer. For CVT-patients with anaemia at admission, the risk of poor clinical outcome is doubled.
