An RCT with the combination of varenicline and bupropion for smoking cessation: Clinical implications for front line use
Addiction Jun 13, 2018
Cinciripini PM, et al. - In view of the observations that only a fewer than 25% of smokers remain abstinent 1-year post-treatment despite several efficacious smoking cessation treatments, researchers investigated whether varenicline and bupropion combination treatment would result in higher abstinence rates than varenicline alone. No increase in smoking abstinence rates was observed with the addition of bupropion to varenicline treatment compared to that of varenicline alone. Previous research suggesting varenicline and the combination of varenicline and bupropion to have a consistently favorable effect on smoking cessation compared with placebo was supported by this study.
