Amiodarone treatment in atrial fibrillation and the risk of incident cancers: A nationwide observational study
Heart Rhythm Dec 04, 2019
Rasmussen PV, Dalgaard F, Gislason GH, et al. - Because amiodarone has been linked to incident cancer in observational investigations, case reports, and animal studies, researchers performed a nationwide observational study using nationwide registers to investigate the dose-response link between amiodarone use and the risk of cancer. This study included all Danish patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) treated with amiodarone from 1996 to 2014 (n = 18,503). Cancer was reported in 2,974 individuals during follow-up (median: 8.1 years). Overall, investigators found no proof of a dose-response link between cumulative dose of amiodarone and incident cancer risk.
