Age-period-cohort analysis of stroke mortality attributable to high sodium intake in China and Japan: GBD data 1990 to 2016
Stroke Jun 20, 2019
Cao J, et al. - In China and Japan from 1990 to 2016, researchers evaluated the long-term trends in stroke mortality due to high sodium intake. Utilizing an age-period-cohort method, the mortality data were obtained from the GBD study (Global Burden of Disease) 2016 and were analyzed. From 1990 to 2016, the age-standardized mortality rates, the period effect, and the cohort effect of stroke mortality due to high sodium intake in China and Japan decreased in both sexes and all age groups. Sodium reduction strategies are of low cost and effective for stroke prevention. To decrease salt consumption, it is necessary to educate the population with accurate knowledge about healthy diet and techniques.
