Affordability of the EAT–Lancet reference diet: A global analysis

Hirvonen K, et al. - Investigators utilized data of retail prices from 2011 for 744 foods in 159 countries, collected under the International Comparison Program to recognize the most affordable foods to meet EAT-Lancet targets in order to assess the affordability of EAT-Lancet benchmark diets, as a primary step to guiding interventions to enhance diets around the world. They found that recent diets varied considerably from EAT-Lancet targets. In many countries advancing diets was affordable however, several individuals would need some combination of higher income, nutritional assistance, and lower prices.
