Afamin: An early predictor of preeclampsia
Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics Oct 14, 2018
Köninger A, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers examined afamin in the first trimester of women developing preeclampsia (PE) later in pregnancy and in control participants without pregnancy complications. In this case-control study design, they analyzed 137 serum samples from the first trimester of pregnancy. For statistical evaluation, Mann–Whitney U test, t test, logistic regression, and ROC analyses were performed. Compared with control participants, afamin concentrations were significantly higher in patients developing PE. Subgroup analysis showed that patients developing late-onset PE, but not those developing early-onset PE, displayed substantially higher afamin concentrations vs control participants in the first trimester.
