Additive value of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and C-reactive protein level assessment for prediction of 2-year mortality after transcatheter aortic valve implantation
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 30, 2020
Zieliński K, Kalińczuk L, Chmielak Z, et al. - Researchers analyzed 334 patients treated successfully with transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and having complete 2-year follow-up, to evaluate the separate as well as the combined prognostic values of baseline HDL-C and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in this patient population. They noted that prediction of 2-year mortality was enabled by baseline HDL-C ≤ 46 mg/dl (areas under the curve [AUC] = 0.657) and CRP ≥ 0.20 mg/dl (AUC = 0.634). High CRP was identified to be related to increased death within the first year of follow-up, whereas increased mortality attributed to low HDL-C was revealed in the second year. Improved mortality prediction (AUC = 0.697) was afforded by the combination of both markers with EuroSCORE II. Overall, findings revealed a joint contribution of low baseline HDL-C and high CRP to the prediction of increased all-cause death post-TAVI.
