Heart Jun 15, 2020
Wei JF, Huang FY, Xiong TY, et al. - In a region of China where medical resources are less stressed compared with Wuhan, a cohort of patients with covid-19 was investigated to ascertain the prevalence as well as immediate clinical implications of acute myocardial injury in this patient population. Mortality, admission to ICU, requirement for mechanical ventilation, treatment with vasoactive agents and classification of disease severity, all were assessed as outcomes of interest. From January to 10 March 2020, a sum of 101 cases were enrolled. The presence of acute myocardial injury was evident in 15.8% of patients, a high-sensitivity troponin T value fivefold greater than the normal upper limit was detected in approximately half of these patients. Overall, findings revealed a common prevalence of acute myocardial injury in patients with covid-19. In these patients, an adverse prognosis was reported in relation to acute myocardial injury.
