Acetabular anatomical parameters in patients with idiopathic osteonecrosis of the femoral head
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 13, 2019
Zeng J, et al. - In this retrospective, 1:2 matched, case-control study, researchers tested the assumption that acetabular anatomical abnormalities could be related to idiopathic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). Participants in the study were 101 patients (136 hips) with idiopathic ONFH and 202 control individuals (404 hips) matched for age, gender, and BMI who had no apparent radiographic hip pathologies. In hips with idiopathic osteonecrosis, less acetabular coverage was discovered than in control individuals. In addition, acetabular dysplasia incidence was higher in the idiopathic ONFH group than the control group. In the East Asian population, less acetabular coverage can be linked to the development of ONFH.
