Accumulated neighborhood deprivation and coronary heart disease: A nationwide cohort study from Sweden
BMJ Open Sep 23, 2019
Lönn SL, et al. - Swedish nationwide data of men and women aged 45 years and above (n = 3,140,657) and who were free from coronary heart disease (CHD) at baseline was used to examine whether an accumulated exposure to neighborhood deprivation led to greater risks of CHD. To investigate longitudinal exposure to neighborhood deprivation is needed to attain a deeper understanding of the correlation between neighborhood deprivation and CHD. In younger age cohorts, measures of accumulated exposure may be of huge significance and that a hypothesized causality in the relationship between neighborhood deprivation and CHD may be likely in younger although not in elderly age cohorts. Nonetheless, if the focus is singularly on prognostication, a model on the basis of single-point-in-time evaluations may be a sufficient approximation, at least in older age cohorts.
