Absence of electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy is associated with increased mortality after transcatheter aortic valve replacement
Clinical Cardiology Aug 03, 2018
Kampaktsis PN, et al. - In this study including patients that underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), researchers investigated whether baseline electrocardiographic (ECG) left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) was independently associated with increased all-cause mortality post-TAVR. Using gender-specific cut-off values, they used Cornell voltage to evaluate the presence of ECG LVH. Survival curves were derived by using the Kaplan-Meier estimator. Findings demonstrated an independent association between the absence of ECG LVH and increased mortality in these patients, and a possible important prognostic role of baseline ECG was suggested, which could lead to further testing to assess for myocardial fibrosis or amyloidosis.
