ABO blood type and risk of porcine bioprosthetic aortic valve degeneration: SWEDEHEART observational cohort study
BMJ Open May 09, 2019
Persson M, et al. - This cohort study evaluates the association between ABO blood type and porcine bioprosthetic aortic valve degeneration. Researchers identified 3417 patients and classified them into type A/AB 1724 (50.5%) and type B/O blood 1693 (49.5%) groups. In this investigation, it was observed that there was no vital need of increased risk for aortic valve reoperation in patients with blood type B/O compared with type A/AB (HR 0.95, 95% CI 0.62 to 1.45). Findings also revealed no notable difference in risk of heart failure or death between the groups. The outcomes reassure that it's safe to use porcine bioprosthetic valves without consideration of ABO blood type in the recipient.
