Ablation Index as a predictor of long-term efficacy in premature ventricular complex ablation: A regional target value analysis
Heart Rhythm Feb 06, 2019
Casella M, et al. - In forecasting acute and long-term success in radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) of premature ventricular complexes (PVCs), researchers investigated the utility of Ablation Index (AI). Participants were 145 retrospectively enrolled patients with idiopathic outflow tract PVCs undergoing RFCA. Three outcome subgroups were defined as success, acute failure, and 6-month failure. The success group exhibited statistically higher maximum and mean AI values (median of the maximum AI 630; median of the mean AI 489) vs the acute failure group (median of the maximum AI 487; median of the mean AI 372) and the 6-month failure group (median of the maximum AI 519; median of the mean AI 410). Statistically higher maximum and mean AI values were confirmed to be present in the success group vs in the failure/6-month failure group and also in septum and right ventricular free wall PVC origin subgroups. Overall, in RFCA of PVCs, AI could be a long-term predictor of success.
